Cyclooxygenase (COX), also known as prostaglandin endoenzyme reductase, is a bifocal enzyme with Cyclooxygenase and catalase activities, and it is a rate-limiting enzyme of arachidonic acid (AA) oxygenation to generate prostaglandin (PGs). There are two COX-1 and COX-2 isoenzymes. The former is structural and mainly exists in blood vessels, stomach, kidney and other tissues, and is involved in the regulation of vasomotor, platelet aggregation, gastric mucosal blood flow, gastric mucus secretion and renal function.
