Protein arginine deiminases (PADs) are enzymes capable of catalysing the citrullination of arginine residues and are involved in several physiological processes. This family comprises five members (PAD1–4, PAD6) and among them, PAD4 has been linked to many diseases including autoimmune and cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
