The receptor shown to be expressed in macrophages, where it is coupled to the β-arrestin pathway.60 FA activation leads to recruitment of β-arrestin-2, receptor internalization, and sequestration of proinflammatory proteins.60 Omega-3 FAs such as docosahexaenoic acid are β-arrestin-biased GPR120 agonists (EC50's=1-10 μM) that reduce inflammation in adipose tissue and improve insulin sensitivity in mice on a high fat diet.
